The Koritnica River flows through the Soča Valley, which is known for its stunning natural landscapes and outdoor recreational opportunities. The river originates from several springs near the Vršič Pass, one of the highest mountain passes in Slovenia, and it runs for approximately 17 kilometers before merging with the larger Soča River near the town of Bovec. The Koritnica River is renowned for its crystal-clear, emerald-green waters, which are a result of the limestone geology in the region.
